Family Group Pachay Las Lomas, San Martín

This family group focuses its energy on the use of all kinds of alternative rural technology. The family farm uses a bicycle powered waterpump to take advantage of a clean aquifer at 30 meters depth, and a solar toaster for beans. In addition they have a small workshop for tiles out of microcement and microconcrete, using the bicivibradora. The person who runs the tile shop is named Bartolome Sunuc. They have been making the concrete tiles for several years. The process includes making cement and sand tiles, molding the piece for 24 hours to dry, and then setting them in the water for 10 to 15 days. Concrete is more durable than zinc roofing, it does not rust and can be painted to customize the tiles.
